Turkish Market of Spices



Haven't you visited Misir Çarşisı yet? You certainly have to rectify an omission, if you haven't! Here's just breathtaking amount of sweets, spices, herbs, nuts, Turkish delights!
Misir Çarşisi - Market of spices or Egyptian market is located in Istanbul.

The market is situated at New Mosque - Yeni Camii. It appeared in the 17th century to finance building of New Mosque.

New Mosque is one of the biggest in Istanbul and one of the most visited.

Bread-rings, corn, fried chestnuts are sold at the square.

New Mosque had been built for 66 years, its central dome has the diameter of 17,5m. 

The mosque is adjoned by trading rows of the spices market.


The market of spices is called Egyptian market, because it was Egypt through which spices were delivered from India.


The market has about 100 shops with sweets and spices. Even if you don't need anything you may come here just for an excursion.

The market is told to be expensive, cause there are a lot of tourists coming here. Let us check if it's true or not...
Such sets of spices that you see above cost about 20-30 USD (36-48 liras). We guess such set will be enough for some years...

Dried apricots - 15,5 USD / kg.




The most plain Turkish delight - 18 liras, 10 USD / kg.


Tea - 100 - 400 liras / kg. (57 - 225 USD).



Hazelnut - 32 liras = 18 USD / kg. Pistachio nuts - 30 liras = 16,5 USD / kg.

Many tasty things for 42 liras or 23,5 USD / kg.

Here they wrote prices for 100 gr - 3 - 8 liras = 1,7 - 4 USD.


Goods from Greece found some place at the Turkish market too!

Prices per kg: 45 liras = 25, 3 USD, 70 liras - 39 USD, 85 liras - 48 USD, 140 liras - 78 USD.

Turkish delight may be tasted absolutely free!

Walnut - 18 liras, 10 USD / kg.


Peeled walnut - 34 liras = 19 USD.


More nuts of various kinds.


Many different goods are sold outside the market too. For example, olives for 7 - 12 liras / kg.

Cheese 10, 5 - 11, 5 liras =  6 - 6,5 USD / kg.
