Photographer Charles Eisenmann
had his studio in New York in the years 1870 and in addition to making
portraits of ordinary people he had a passion for “freaks” occurring in
fairgrounds photographing it at every opportunity. He has amassed in
this way more 700 these portraits.
For his series “There’s a Place in Hell for Me and My Friends“, the South African photographer Pieter Hugo
has made portraits of his friends to whom he gave the appearance of
monsters, zombies coming straight from hell by removing the red when on
his black and white portraits digital, which darkened and highlights all
skin imperfections, even invisible to the naked eye in the same way as
with calotypes in silver.
